It is called self-therapy; you have the power to feel better. This work is about taking back control of the emotions and situations that control you; to use strong emotions as medicine rather than poison. It is a practical, self-initiated approach to mental and emotional wellness. It is a journey on which you will recognize how painful experiences have separated you from your best self and that you have the inborn ability to learn and grow stronger from those challenges. You will find, as I have, that we were misinformed about the role and value of our emotions.

    Emotional Liberation is both the process of utilizing emotions for psychological self-healing and the experience of freedom from trauma’s adverse effects. Here are five fundamental features of this therapeutic approach to psychological healing. - from Emotional Liberation, page 16.

  • 1. We All Have Familiar Triggers (things that upset us) and Recurring Reactive Patterns

    These are habitual emotional reactions to certain stimuli in which we lose conscious control and react in ways that work against our best interests.

  • 2. We Have All Suffered Trauma

    To varying degrees of intensity, everyone has been hit by adverse experiences. These are the source of our patterns. Compassionate understanding of our traumas can transform them into growth and strength.

  • 3. We Are Built for Recovery

    We evolved with an inborn system of psychological repair, very much like our body’s immune system. Self-Therapy, using what you know about yourself and can do for yourself, is the future of therapy. Discovering and utilizing it is our goal.

  • 4. Emotions Are Keys to Recovery

    Emotions have been misunderstood and misused, but are essential to our natural healing abilities. Feelings detect and protect you from things that threaten your happiness and well-being.

  • 5. Emotions Are a Complete Therapeutic System

    Once we begin to be more comfortable with troubling emotions in general, we find that each one has a very specific purpose. Just as various antibodies are pathogen-specific. Anger, for example, is sent out to neutralize particular types of harm in your life. Emotions’ completely systematic behavior gives a most effective ability to diagnose and treat their cause.

  • Everybody’s been hurt. Our history has lasting effects that limit effectiveness and happiness.

  • The things that trigger and upset us now - our patterns - come from our history.

  • We have the ability to self-regulate current triggers and heal past traumas; a self-healing system.

  • The same emotions that arose in trauma and are activated in our patterns are keys to self-regulation and healing.

  • Knowledge of their purpose and emotional management skills can be learned by everyone.

  • The key to managing emotions is self-awareness building.

  • Mindfulness - calm observation of emotions - yields solutions to events that upset us and resolution of past adverse experiences.

Emotional Liberation is a journey and a destination.

It is the very personal work of emotional processing and healing, becoming an emotionally agile and mature person. It is a courageous and joyous adventure to discover the value and purpose of each difficult but precious feeling you have; an intimate relationship with yourself in which you come to know why you feel the way you do and how to feel better.

Emotional Liberation is simply better information and practical methodologies. It can be done as ”self-therapy” at your own pace or with a trained facilitator in a therapeutic process of compassionate, co-creative coaching. You may prefer following written instructions, video guidance, an audio recording, or live practice with a facilitator. You will be guided through simple breathwork practices to enhance self awareness and prepare you to safely access your feelings. You will then be given suggestions to examine experiences and allow feelings, cues to understand and work with your emotions. You will emerge from the experience relieved and refreshed with new perspectives and skills to feel better.
